As is common with other village styles, Bidjar rugs were mostly woven inside houses for use by its weaver or for sale in neighboring villages. Nevertheless, they are a prized rug style for designers and design enthusiasts alike for their dense construction and range of creative designs. Indeed, Bidjar rugs are considered the ‘iron rug of Persia’ due to the unique weaving practice of beating the weft strands with a hammer against the rows of knots, until the weave becomes extremely compact. The result is a rug that weights several times that of Malayer or Mahal rugs of the same size. This rug has been treated with an antique wash, softening its tones to appeal to the palette of any modern-day home. Pattern, color variation, and signs of wear with vintage items is normal. If you have specific questions about wear or colors, email hello[at]passerinehome[dot]com or call us to discuss this rug in more detail.

We recommend using rug pads to extend the life of all Passerine rugs.
